Joana Bruno began her career as a scientific illustrator, drawing inspiration from the natural world.
Driven by a desire to explore more personal and expressive storytelling, she transitioned into figurative sculpture. With a Gulbenkian Foundation Scholarship, she honed her skills at the Barcelona Academy of Art, and further refined her craft at the Athens Sculpture Atelier, learning from renowned figurative sculptors.
Primarily working with clay, ceramics, plaster, and bronze, her artwork explores themes of memory, contradiction, and transformation. Her figures merge realism with the evocation of inner states.
Today, Joana evolves her practice through experimentation and material exploration. Her background in scientific illustration continues to shape her distinctive approach, creating a compelling balance between discipline and expressive artistry.
