Joana Bruno is a contemporary figurative artist living and working in Nice, France. Her practice blends the technical skills of classical sculpture with a modern eye for clean shapes and geometry.
She explores themes of transition, contradiction and coexistence. Her work focuses on the friction of being human, exploring the spaces between standing still and moving, being raw and refined, being present and absent.
Joana’s work is grounded in years of classical atelier training. She studied at the Barcelona Academy of Art under a Gulbenkian Foundation Scholarship and furthered her skills at the Athens Sculpture Atelier.
Today, her work is as much about the chemistry of the materials as it is about the human form. Joana manages the entire lifecycle of a piece, from the initial clay modeling to the technical complexities of casting and custom glazing. Through this process, she looks for ways to capture the subtle internal shifts of the human spirit, reinterpreting traditional sculpture into a contemporary exploration of the inner motions of the self.
