Joana Bruno is a contemporary figurative artist based in Nice, France. Her practice investigates the psychological resonance of the human figure, working at the intersection of classical realism and abstract geometry. She explores themes of transition and coexistence of contradictions in both matter and subject, along with the friction between the raw and the refined, the static and the fluid.
Joana’s work is deeply rooted in the European figurative tradition. With a Gulbenkian Foundation Scholarship, she honed her skills at the Barcelona Academy of Art, and further refined her craft at the Athens Sculpture Atelier, learning from renowned figurative sculptors.
While her process begins with clay, her technical versatility extends to mold-making, slip casting, and the development of custom glazes. By translating single forms into varied materialities, Joana captures the subtle internal shifts of the human spirit, reinterpreting traditional sculpture into a contemporary exploration of the inner motions of the self.
